Sometimes, we wake from a dream feeling as though we have lost something.
The strange part is that it may be something we never had.
Perhaps we were living in a beautiful home, holding something we have always wanted, or living a life completely different from our own. For a few moments after waking, the feeling can be surprisingly real.
Why do we miss something that never belonged to us?
Perhaps dreams do not always show us what we want. Sometimes, they show us what we feel is missing.
A person may dream of living in a large, peaceful house. However, it may not be the house they truly want. What they may be longing for is the sense of calm they felt while living there.
In the same way, dreaming about a different life does not always mean that we want to escape the one we have. Sometimes, it simply means that a part of us is wondering what else might be possible.
Dreams can give our feelings unexpected forms.
The wish to travel may really be a need for change. Wanting to own something may be connected to a deeper need for comfort or security.
That is why the most important part of a dream may not always be what we saw.
Sometimes, it is how we felt while we were there.
Perhaps we do not truly need the thing we had in the dream.
Perhaps we are searching for the feeling it gave us.
And maybe that is the question a dream leaves behind:
What am I really looking for?
