When Does the Heart Know a Dream Is True?
There are moments when we wake up carrying a strange certainty we can’t quite explain. We feel that what we just saw wasn’t random. That it meant something. Words don’t really capture this feeling. But it’s what sets a true dream apart from ordinary night thoughts that pass through us and leave nothing behind.
Scholars long ago described a true vision as one that leaves the heart calm, even when the dream itself seemed strange or unsettling. What matters isn’t how clear the images were, but what stays with you after you wake. Sometimes months, even years, pass before something in your life connects back to that dream. You suddenly realize it wasn’t meaningless after all.
This sense of truth doesn’t mean the dream has to bring good news. It might simply nudge you gently toward something you need to notice, or quietly invite you to reflect. And the closer your heart stays to God, the clearer your dreams tend to become, less clouded by the everyday noise that fills our ordinary dreams.
This feeling usually doesn’t need a complicated explanation. The heart just knows, the same way we recognize a loved one’s voice among many others. Sometimes people close to us share that same certainty about a dream, without us even asking them to.
So sit with that feeling patiently. Don’t build life decisions on it, and don’t brush it off either. Let it draw you closer to God through prayer, and leave the rest to Him.
